A young Dalit girl (20) who was reportedly missing from her home in Jind since yesterday was found dead this morning. The victim’s family has now alleged that she was raped before she was murdered, and the assailants dumped her body in the fields on the outskirts of village Amarheri in Jind district of Haryana. The body was recovered today. Villagers joined the family members as they alleged police inaction and kept her body in the middle of the Jind-Gohana road and blocked the highway.

The protest resulted in a fierce clash between villagers and Haryana police personnel that left many people and policemen injured. The agitated mob went on a rampage and damaged over two dozen Haryana roadways buses parked at the nearby Jind bus station.

The victim was a student of Junior Basic Training teacher’s course. According to her parents, she left home on Saturday morning to appear for compartment examination, but did not return home. Her parents searched for her but were unable to trace her.

This morning, her body was recovered from the fields of a nearby village. “From the condition of her body, anybody could make out that she was raped. There were few clothes on her body and injury marks on her body and private parts were clearly visible. When the police refused to take cognizance of our complaint we had no option but to protest,” said a relative.

According to the police,a large number of villagers brought the victim’s body and kept it in the middle of the road outside Jind bus station. The protest led to major traffic blockade in the area. There was heavy police deployment to pacify the agitated mob. However, while police officers were negotiating with the people, somebody from the crowd started pelting stones. A number of agitated people also entered the bus station and damaged the windowpanes of over two dozen buses. This led to a fierce clash between both the sides and police resorted to cane charge to disperse the mob. In the clash,a number of police and district administration vehicles were also damaged.

The police took hold of the victim’s body and sent it for post mortem.

”An FIR has been filed and we have registered a case against unidentified persons on charges of rape and murder,” said Inspector Kaptan Singh,Station House Officer,Jind City police station.
