Soon,Metro smart cards may be used for making payments in buses and cabs. A meeting was held earlier this month to look into the viability of extending the Metro Card’s use to DTC and cluster buses. This would be a step towards ensuring usage of common mobility cards which can be used across all modes of transport in the city.

This national common mobility card (NCMC),called ‘More’,was unveiled by Urban Development Minister Kamal Nath recently and the Delhi project will be part of the national project.

“Delhi Metro Rail Corporation and DIMTS (Delhi integrated multi-modal transit system) will hold meetings to sort out the technical issues related to this,’’ said a senior transport official.

Initially, all top up in smart cards will be done at DMRC stations and later, this will be extended to designated places decided by the Transport department,DTC or DIMTS.

“During the transition period, the revenue settlement can be done on monthly basis between DMRC and Transport department,if required,’’ the official said.

“Once this system is in place,an automated fare collection system (AFCS) can be introduced across all modes of transport. You will be able to pay for all modes of transport using this card,’’ said a senior transport

official.

Sharing of card procurement cost between transport and DMRC will be examined, and DMRC will have to communicate operation and maintenance cost to Transport department.

DMRC and DIMTS will have to sign a non-disclosure agreement for sharing data format. This would be done in a way so that data can be transferred from DIMTS since it will be responsible for monitoring the performance of cluster buses through the usage of GPS and other technology. Control rooms have been set up for this purpose.

“DIMTS will also make necessary changes at the Electronic Ticketing Machine level as well as back office level to enable use of DMRC smart card on ETM,’’ the official said.

The ETM project of Delhi government, which involves installing these machines in DTC buses was supposed to be implemented by DIMTS but issues over funds revenue sharing has now led the Transport department to seek the expertise of other companies for implementation of the project,he said.
