Sticking to its stand of not holding any flag meeting, the BSF said Thursday that lot of defence structures in Pakistan had been damaged and the villages across the border were empty. BSF is now using 10 types of weapons including CGRL’s to retaliate to ceasefire violations from Pakistan with the intensity of firing having increased Wednesday night. BSF is learnt to have fired more than 40,000 rounds from light machine guns and medium machine guns on Wednesday night alone, about 20,000 rounds more than the previous night.
National Security Advisor Ajit Doval has been monitoring the situation on an hourly basis and has opened direct line of communication with BSF officials. BSF Thursday gave a presentation to Doval where Home Secretary Anil Goswami was also present.
Sources said many observation points, naka-points and watchtowers of the Pakistan Rangers have been damaged, which is why Pakistan was resorting to targetting civilian areas in Arnia and RS Pura sectors.
D K Pathak, DG of the force, said they were sticking to the original stand of not calling for a flag meeting. “We have decided not to call for any flag meeting but we haven’t received any request from Pakistan either,” he said.
“They are now trying to damage our watchtowers and observations points but have not been able to do so. We are fully prepared and are taling all measures to safeguard the lives of our personnel as well,” said another senior BSF official.
