With Arvind Kejriwal rejecting Z-plus security in Delhi and Haryana’s M L Khattar slashing his, a look at CMs’ security.

ASSAM: Tarun Gogoi’s Z-plus security ensures he has a 36-man NSG commando team, a pilot vehicle, an escort team, a bullet-proof vehicle, a Close Protection Team and armed house guards. His security has two SPs, two ASPs, four DySPs, and a company strength of Special Security Guards. In all, 90-100 men.

BIHAR: Jitan Ram Manjhi has about 150 policemen deputed to guard his official residence or travel with him.

CHHATTISGARH: Raman Singh’s Z-plus security ensures that nearly 500 personnel provide him cover — NSG commandos, CRPF and state police.

GUJARAT: Anandiben Patel has Z-plus security cover with 70 Chetak commandos of the Gujarat Police. A team of commandos and local police guards her Gandhinagar residence. She travels in a bulletproof SUV led by a pilot and armed escort vehicles equipped with jammers.

HARYANA: Around 120 personnel are deployed in the three-tier security cover for Manohar Lal Khattar. He recently removed 730 security personnel on VIP duty, 130 of them from his own security team. Khattar’s predecessor Bhupinder Singh Hooda had over 300 securitymen deployed for his security.

HIMACHAL PRADESH: Virbhadra Singh’s Z-category security cover is headed by a DySP-rank officer and has one inspector, two SIs/ASIs, three head constables and a few constables.

JHARKHAND: Raghubar Das has Z-plus security. The number of personnel is revised based on threat perception.

J&K: All former CMs are entitled to Z-plus security. There are at least 20 personnel of the Special Security Group with a protector vehicle and an ambulance.

KARNATAKA: There are 230 policemen assigned to Siddaramaiah’s security team — from constables to SPs. While six body guards constantly travel with the CM, the others are located in the districts.

KERALA: Oommen Chandy has five personal security guards, but he usually travels with only one. He is entitled to Z-category security, but does not use it.

MADHYA PRADESH: Shivraj Singh Chouhan is entitled to Z-category security, but the security protocol is rarely maintained. The sanctioned posts for CM’s security at his official residence are 165. Only nine of them are with him when he is travelling.

MAHARASHTRA: Devendra Fadnavis has Z-plus security. His convoy has a bullet-proof car, a pilot car, 2 escorts, one spare car. The security cover is supervised 24×7 by an armed police inspector, 2 assistant police inspectors, and 10 constables.

MIZORAM: Lal Thanhawla has a security cover of five armed policemen in uniform and five plainclothes policemen, most with small arms.

ORISSA: Naveen Patnaik’s security cover has 50 personnel headed by an additional DCP-ranked officer.

PUNJAB: Parkash Singh Badal has 90-100 personnel of the Punjab Police deployed for his immediate protection. In addition to the state police protection, he also has Z-plus security cover with about 36 NSG commandos.

TAMIL NADU: O Panneerselvam has 15 security personnel and a convoy of three vehicles. He has no Z-category protection. Jayalalithaa had at least 10 vehicles in her convoy, a team of 15 SPG commandos, 10-15 state commandos and another 15 police personnel deployed at her residence.

TELANGANA and ANDHRA: K Chandrasekhara Rao has Z-category security while Andhra Pradesh’s N Chandrababu Naidu has Z-plus security. Their convoys include a vehicle loaded with electronic gear and signal jammers. Approximately 35 to 40 personnel are in charge of Naidu’s security and approximately 25 personnel guard Rao.

TRIPURA: Manik Sarkar has security cover of a dozen policemen, half of them in plainclothes.

UTTARAKHAND: Harish Rawat, who enjoys Z-plus security, travels with his Close Protection Team that has 7-8 security personnel.

UTTAR PRADESH: Akhilesh Yadav has 6 Cobra commandos, 7 NSG commandos, a 7-member anti-sabotage team, 100-110 constables, 50 sub-inspectors, 30 head constables, 6-8 DSPs, 1 ASP, an 8-member bomb disposal and detection squad and 25 inspectors

WEST BENGAL: Mamata Banerjee has around 35 security personnel. The number, however, goes up when she travels to districts with a Naxal presence. Her convoy includes her SUV, a bullet-proof car, three escort cars, two pilot cars etc.
