Days after a Punjab man sold his infant grandson on Facebook,a man arrested in Haryana’s Rewari district Thursday after he allegedly tried to sell three of his four daughters for Rs 50,000 each.

The man,Ramesh Kumar, with the help of three of his accomplices —- Sewa Ram,Ajit Singh and Ajay Kumar —- had struck a deal with certain persons (identity withheld by the police) to sell three teenage daughters.

The matter came to light when the eldest of Ramesh’s daughters reached the office of Rewari’s Superintendent of Police and narrated her plight.

According to the police, the case pertains to Bhaktinagar colony in Rewari where Ramesh lives with his four daughters and mentally challenged wife. His accomplices Sewa Ram and Ajit Singh are also residents of the same colony, while Ajay Kumar is a resident of Model Town.

In her complaint, the 16-year-old girl alleged that her father used to torture her and her sisters and forced them to perform certain acts against their wishes. She said that the sisters overheard Ramesh telling his friends that he has sold them off to a person for Rs 50,000 each and has received an advance for one of the girls.

Ramesh,a truck driver by profession,is not maintaining a good financial position,Investigating Officer in the case,Sub-Inspector Sribhagwan said. “The girl alleged that her father had entered into an agreement with one Kalu to sell three of them for Rs 50,000 each. We have already arrested all those named by the girl and are probing into the allegations. We recovered Rs 5,000 from Sewa Ram,which he claimed he took as loan from Kalu,” the officer said.

As per the preliminary investigations Ramesh had fixed the marriage of his eldest daughter (now the complainant against him) with Ajay, one of the accused in the case, last year. “Ramesh has alleged that his daughter did not want to get married to Ajay and so has cooked up the story. We are verifying the versions from both the sides,” Sribhagwan added.

The accursed have been arrested after a case was registered against them on charges of abduction, human trafficking, criminal intimidation and assault. They were produced in court, which sent Sewa Ram,Ajit Singh and Ajay Kumar to judicial custody while remanding Ramesh in police custody.
