Suspecting that his two children were not his,a man allegedly poisoned them to death at a village in Pathankot district on Tuesday, police said.
Suresh,a labourer with a rusk manufacturer in Sujanpur, allegedly put a lizard in milk, boiled it and made his children 15-days-old son Sumit and two-and-a-half-years-old daughter Navya drink it at Rattan Colony village near Sujanpur following a dispute with his wife Sheetal.
Suresh has been arrested. During interrogation,he said he was sceptical of his wifes character, who according to him even went on to say that Sumit was not his child but someone elses. This was one of the reasons that he killed the children thinking they were not his, Sujanpur Station House Officer (SHO) Rajinder Singh Minhas said.
The children were found dead by a police party on Tuesday morning. According to SHO Minhas,Suresh allegedly first killed a lizard, crushed it and then put it in the milk. He added that the couple would often fight and on Monday they had an argument at Sheetals parents house in Gurdaspur. Sheetal angrily told him that she would not go back with him and told him to take the children. He came back with the two children and poisoned them to death, the SHO said.
Police said that initially Suresh tried to blame his wife for the deaths but later allegedly confessed to having committed the crime.
