A local leader claiming to be from the BJP allegedly misbehaved with a woman doctor posted at the community health centre, Baghapurana — a sub-divisional hospital — on Saturday and reportedly forced her to examine him after breaking the queue.
The Punjab Civil Medical Services Association, led by district president Dr Gagandeep Singh, lodged a complaint at Baghapurana police station and announced that the health services would be stalled across the district from Monday if the police failed to take action against the accused.
The doctors also alleged that the deputy superintendent of police refused to register their complaint.
According to the complaint lodged with the police, Dr Inderjit Sonia was examining patients in the OPD.
Around 10.30 am, a man posing as a BJP leader entered the OPD room and allegedly used derogatory language and forced Dr Sonia to examine him first as he wanted to get a medical certificate issued for his driving licence.
Dr Sonia reportedly asked him to go out of the OPD room as she was busy examining a woman patient. But the man was insistent and used derogatory remarks against Dr Sonia, it is alleged.
The man and his accomplice then went to Senior Medical Officer Dr Surjit Singh Gill and complained against Dr Sonia.
Later, the accused called some accomplices and allegedly staged a protest inside the hospital.
Meanwhile, the police reached the hospital and the DSP refused to entertain the complaint of the doctor, it is alleged.
