The Army has served a warning to a Major posted in an artillery regiment in Faridkot after his wife complained that the local brigade commander “forced her to participate in rehearsals for a fashion show being organised as part of family welfare activities”. The Major has been accused of “using” his wife to file the complaint “for his own grievances”.
Vidhya A Karajagi, wife of Major Anappa C Karajagi, had complained to Lt Gen A K Sahni, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of South Western Command in July, that she was being forced by Brigadier Sanjiv Yadav, Commander of 16 Artillery Brigade, to take part in rehearsals for a fashion show.
In her complaint, the Major’s wife had alleged that she was harassed for objecting to the fashion show rehearsals in the presence of her husband and his Commanding Officer, Col Rajeev Dhawan
Reacting to the complaint, the Army had instituted a one-man inquiry, conducted by a Brigadier, in August.
While the Major’s wife is yet to hear the outcome of the inquiry, her husband was summoned by the GOC of the Division on October 12 and served with a warning order.
The order charges the Major for having used his wife to file a complaint with the Army authorities whereas it was he who should have done so and warned him not to repeat the mistake.
