Two persons, including a sarpanch of a village in Dhar district,Tuesday alleged that they were beaten up by policemen at the behest of Madhya Pradesh Women and Child Development Minister Ranjana Baghel.

“Nearly 10-12 policemen from nearby Bakaner Post came to Kalibavdi last night and abused and beat us severely,” the village sarpanch Hansraj Chouhan and a villager Guddu Hanotia alleged during a press conference.

According to them, the incident took place when minister Baghel had come to their village last night for campaigning.

At the time,Chouhan and Hanotia said they publicly opposed Baghel’s candidature from Manawar seat and raised slogans in support of a rebel candidate, following which they were “abused and beaten up” by policemen.

The duo also alleged that the police threatened to frame false cases against them and put them behind bars.

“The police acted against us at the behest of the minister. We will file a complaint with the Election Commission and Inspector General (IG),Indore range in this connection,” Chouhan said.

Efforts to contact Baghel over the issue proved futile. Police too refused to comment on the matter.
