A man was arrested in Damoh after he confessed to killing his two former friends because they were involved in transporting cows for slaughter and refused to mend their ways despite being warned.

Gulli alias Fulcharan, a resident of Singpur, told police that he was engaged in illegal transport of cattle but did not know they were eventually slaughtered.  The 25-year-old said he was full of remorse after knowing that one of the cows transported by him was slaughtered.

Police had recovered bodies of Gulla Soma Banjaran, 35, and Ganesh Bhilala, 22, from Bari-Sadpur forest on May 26. During investigation, police learnt that Gulla, a resident of Sadpur, had been booked under the state’s cow slaughter act and was out on bail. After coming out of jail, he again took to transporting cows with Ganesh.

Gulli told  police that on May 23 he found that the duo had collected several cattle for illegal transport. He told them not to do so and had an argument with them. Gulli said he chased the duo and attacked them with an axe.

Police have recovered the axe and his blood-stained clothes.

Gulli and his relative, a minor, have been arrested.
