The Congress on Wednesday appointed five new woman general secretaries in its Rajasthan unit. Leela Maderna, wife of former minister Mahipal Maderna — one of the main accused in the Bhanwari Devi rape and murder case — is one of them.
The decision to appoint Leela Maderna, sources said, was taken to woo Jat voters. The party’s poor show in the 2013 assembly and last year’s Lok Sabha polls was attributed, among other things, to the breaking away of the Jat vote. Other four are Vijay Laxmi Bishnoi, Suchita Arya, Ganga Devi and Poonam Goyal.
