Officials from the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and Goa Police searched former CM Digambar Kamat’s residence Thursday in connection with the probe into the Louis Berger bribery scam. The raids came on a day the Crime Branch moved the High Court against a district court order granting anticipatory bail to Kamat. The next hearing in the case is scheduled for August 27.

Raids were carried out at five locations in Panjim and Madgaon. Besides Kamat’s Madgaon residence, the homes and offices of his associates Gaurish Lawande, Nilesh Lawande and Narhar Thakur were searched. Crime Branch officials also raided the home of former PWD minister Alemao Churchill, who is now in judicial custody.

Sources said ED and police seized over 100 files related to property dealings. “We also found some foreign currency. The examination of documents is on. Summons will be issued to the concerned shortly after it is completed,” a senior ED official told The Indian Express.
