FORMER BJP president Nitin Gadkaris meeting Raj Thackeray after the MNS collided head-on with senior BJP leader Eknath Khadse, the Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly, has made no noise.
While many in the party are angry over Gadkaris act, others are simply not bothered. And no one is coming out openly against Gadkari.
Insiders say it is indicative of the party being in disarray in the state. While many in the party are angry over Gadkaris act, others are simply not bothered.
Its time some of his close friends in Nagpur or his well-wishers told him a thing or two about what he has done to the party. And this is a very gentlemanly (sabhya) reaction. Many in the party feel much more strongly about it, said a senior party leader.
Nobody wants to come on record and hazard a guess as to why Gadkari chose to meet Raj Thackeray during a huge face-off between MNS and BJP.
A BJP leader said,Gadkari sees Raj as a great asset, perhaps politically. He often meets him and mostly it is Gadkari who goes to meet him and rarely the other way round. He perhaps thinks he would help him in some way. Remember,Raj Thackeray is now very close to Narendra Modi.
And of course,Gadkari and Uddhav dont get along that nicely, he added. It is obvious nobody would openly speak out against Gadkari meeting Raj and it is not just political compulsions that are forcing them to keep silent.
The leader explained,All senior BJP leaders in the state are now thinking only about themselves. Thats why nobody rose in strong defence of Khadse whom the MNS accused of not taking corruption issues forward. And this when Khadse could have been the only, though reluctant, consensus candidate for BJP state chiefs post. If he is so widely acceptable in the party, why hasnt anybody defended his honour?
It is learnt that the RSS has reconciled to the reality about Gadkaris self-defeating ways within his own party and having so many friends outside the party. The RSS no more thinks much about him and has put its weight behind Modi. RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat acknowledges that Modi has a following across villages, towns and cities, a leader said.
