In Jammu and Kashmir State,employees of the loss making corporations who have been given notice by the State government to go for the voluntary retirement have resisted it asking for employing them in other government departments.
According to officials,in the Jammu and Kashmir Industries (JKI) state government has given notice of VRS to nearly 400 employees. However,the employees have moved the court against the government order asking them to opt for the VRS. According to officials with employees showing resistance and even some approaching the courts,this was the main difficulty faced by the government to remove the surplus staff in the loss making coporations and companies in the state. We will get the stay vacated which has been brought by the employees against the government order to relieve them from the job by taking the VRS,” said,Jammu and Kashmir’s Industries Minister,S S Slathi. Officials add that government has directed all those corporations which have surplus staff to give them golden handshake or voluntary retirement. Infact surplus staff has been identified as one of the main reasons,for the losses being faced by the Corporations.
In Jammu and Kashmir Industries,which runs a number of industrial productions including the silk production and the wool production units,officials said that they have identified a surplus staff of nearly 1,000 employees. From a total of 1,673 employees with the JKI,officials said that the surplus staff has been given notice.
According to officials,those employees who are not eligible for the voluntary retirement are being given the golden handshake. Officials said that the requirement for voluntary retirement was that an employee should have more than 3 year remaining service and at least 10 year service. However those who don’t fall in this category,government has asked for relieveing those employees through golden handshake.
As per the policy which has been worked out by the government employees will be paid 35 days salary per year for the service which they have rendered and 25 day salary for the remaining service. MD JKI,S A Tak,said that it was the government’s priority to give the voluntary retirement and golden handshake to people.
We have a huge scope for profits,particularly in silk production. But for that the first thing we need to do is to reduce the staff. Employees are resisting the voluntary retirement and golden handshake by continuing in the jobs in the units which have been closed, he added.
