The Lok Sabha on Wednesday passed a bill to amend the Whistleblowers Protection Act amid stiff resistance from the Opposition which demanded it be sent to the Standing Committee. Congress members staged a walkout, claiming vital provisions in the proposed legislation have been diluted.

With the last day of the Budget session coming to an end, the government sent four listed bills to the Standing Committee, with MoS for Parliamentary Affairs Rajiv Pratap Rudy saying he hoped “it would make the Opposition happy”. The bills sent to the House panel were: the Benami Transactions (Prohibition) Amendment Bill, 2015; the Compensatory Afforestation Fund Bill, 2015; the National Waterways Bill, 2015; and the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development (Amendment) Bill, 2015.
