Left raises Tapas notice, cracks in Opposition unity

Throughout Tuesday’s exchange, Congress MPs did not make any intervention.

The spat between the TMC and BJP in Lok Sabha Tuesday following S S Ahluwalia’s demand for a censure motion against TMC’s Kalyan Banerjee may drive a wedge into opposition unity that brought the Rajya Sabha to a standstill last week.

The first person to associate with Ahluwalia’s demand was CPM MP Md Salim, who reminded the Speaker about his party’s pending notice against TMC’s Tapas Paul for his comments during Lok Sabha polls threatening Left supporters with rape. Left had last week refused to participate in TMC’s protest with Congress in front of the Gandhi statue in Parliament, saying it did not want to share stage with a party that used abusive language against its opposition in West Bengal. Throughout Tuesday’s exchange, Congress MPs did not make any intervention.
