Leading danseuse Leela Samson, 62, has resigned from the post of chairperson of Sangeet Natak Akademi, India’s premiere institution for the performing arts. She was appointed by the UPA government. She tendered her resignation on September 30, which was subsequently accepted by the government.
Her term was to officially end around August 2015.
“We received Samson’s resignation on September 30 and it has been accepted by the ministry,” Culture minister Shripad Yesso Naik said on Friday. Naik did not elaborate on the reason cited by Samson for her resignation and Samson remained unavailable for comment.
