Land Act: Tribals protest in Delhi, meet President

President assured that he would call a meeting of the governors to discuss the issue.

At a time when the government is facing the heat on its proposals to change the land acquisition Act, more than 1,000 tribals protested in Delhi on Wednesday, asking for protection of their rights and demanding their land not be taken away. A delegation of tribal representatives also met President Pranab Mukherjee and submitted three resolutions calling for speedy and complete implementation of the Forest Rights Act and Panchayat Extension to Scheduled Areas Act. President assured that he would call a meeting of the governors to discuss the issue.
