The Haryana Police on Thursday arrested a person from Najafgarh,wanted for the alleged rape and murder of a three-year-old girl in Rohtak district last week.
The minor had gone missing last week. Later,she was found raped and murdered. The girl’s body was found from near the agriculture department office with injuries on her forehead. Her family hails from Jharkhand and were staying in a rented accommodation. Her father,a labourer,lodged a complaint with the police when he could not find her.
“During his interrogation,the accused told us that he committed the crime in an inebriated condition. He said that the same afternoon,he had first tried to kidnap the victim’s elder sister and also gave her Rs 20 to come with him,but she refused. Later,he took the three-year-old girl to his house on the pretext of giving her a piece of cake,” Rohtak ASP Rajesh Duggal said.
“He first raped her and then had to kill her because he got scared that he may get caught. He smashed the child’s face by repeatedly hitting it with a brick. Later,he dumped the body in the bushes near her home and escaped,” he added.
The accused was produced in the court on Thursday,which remanded to three days in police custody. The accused brother-in-law has been arrested for providing shelter to him. The accused used to work as a labourer and was staying in the victim’s colony.
