The indefinite fast by activist Anna Hazare on Wednesday received a boost when Kiran Bedi announced that she would be joining him from Saturday. Bedi made this announcement in Ralegan Siddhi.
Bedi, who had come from New Delhi to meet the fasting activist, said she has decided to join the fast since her “inner voice” wants her to do so. “I have never fasted in my life, but after meeting Anna it dawned upon me that I must join him,” she said.
She said she has a few prior engagements after which she would join Hazare. Putting the onus on the government for failing to pass the Jan Lokpal bill,Bedi said the repercussions of the failure would be seen in the elections next year.
“The government has not even listed the Bill in the agenda of the ongoing Parliamentary session,” she said. The Opposition, she said, must put pressure on the government to make amendments to make the Bill effective.
When asked about her opinion about former team Anna members joining Hazare,Bedi refused to answer the question stating “people should listen to their inner voice”.
Meanwhile,Ralegan Siddhi gram sabha has decided to call for an impromptu bandh to express solidarity with Hazare. Sarpanch Jaisingh Mapari said they would be holding major agitations at the tehshil office on Thursday.
Anna ‘fine’ with Kejriwal’s rally
Hazare refused to be drawn into any controversy about his former team member Arvind Kejriwal’s victory rally in New Delhi on Wednesday. “People who win far minor elections take out huge rallies. It’s fine if they are celebrating with such aplomb…,” he said.
