The Punjab Congress on Sunday described the appointment of Rupinder Khosla as Assistant Solicitor General (ASG) of India as intriguing and surprising.
It is alarming for a common man to understand how a pro-Akali lawyer manipulated his way to become an ASG of a government headed by the Congress at the Centre, while he is diametrically opposed to its very ideology. It is equally intriguing for Congress cadres to understand, why the outgoing law minister Ashwani Kumar appointed someone with deep Akali leanings and connections as the ASG, state Congress spokesman Sukhpal Khaira said in a statement.
Stating that Khosla remained the additional advocate general during the SAD-BJP regime for five years and later headed a committee looking after the affairs of the advocate generals office after the sudden illness of then incumbent A G Mattewal,Khiara alleged that during the course of discharge of duties as the committee head,Khosla was known for close proximity to the Badal family and the DGP Sumedh Saini.
Khosla is also well known for his unscrupulous maneuvers and jugglery of the law to favour the Akali government for its misdeeds. He also played a pivotal role under Mattewal to organise a state-managed acquittal for the Badal family in the disproportionate assets as well as the Prevention of Corruption Act case, he said.
Khosla not only vehemently defended the unconstitutional and wrongful appoint of Saini as DGP in the high court recently but also exhibited his personal loyalty to him in the case. His conduct as a law officer is clearly one of a shrewd and partisan lawyer with loyalties to the Badal family and the DGP. Therefore, the Congress urges the law minister to rescind the appointment of Khosla as ASG without any further delay, he added.
