The student magazine of Maharaja’s Technical Institute, an engineering college in Thrissur, was prepared by its students union, which is controlled by Students Federation of India, the student outfit of CPI (M).
College principal C K Mohanan said that the magazine in question was meant for the academic year of 2013-14. The students union should have brought out it before March, 2015.
“The college principal and staff have kept away from the magazine production after the students union was refused to incorporate changes suggested by the staff editor of the magazine. We have not released funds for magazine. It is brought out by the students only,’’ said the principal.
Owner of Ebenezer Printers James P F said he noticed the image insulting the Prime Minister only after starting the printing of the magazine.
“The students union should have produced a letter from their principal. We started printing the magazine expecting that they would bring the letter. I would not release the magazine even if they remove the page carrying that controversial image. We don’t want to land in trouble. The CPI (M) district secretary has agreed to my decision,’’ said the press owner.
Students’ magazine editor S Paul was not available for comment.
