Kashmiri Pandit organisation calls separate townships proposal half-baked

The organisation's president expressed disappointment over Kashmiri Pandits not being taken into confidence.

With the J&K government assuring Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on acquiring and providing land for separate townships for rehabilitation of Pandits in Kashmir, Kashmir Pandit Sangrish Samiti (KPSS), an organization of Kashmiri Pandits who never migrated from the Valley, called the proposal as a half baked plan that will make pandits vulnerable.

“In Kashmir everybody has suffered, Muslims, Sikhs and Hindus, but the creation of composite colonies will only complicate the situation and make Kashmiri Pandits who have never left this place vulnerable,’’ KPSS president Sanjay Tickoo said.

Tickoo said that he along with many Pandit families have been living in Kashmir and have been celebrating festivals of Hindus, Muslims and Sikhs together. “Living together and helping each other is the composite culture,’’ he said.

The KPSS president expressed disappointment over Kashmiri Pandits not being taken into confidence on the issue.
He said that even separatists have never opposed the return of migrant Pandits, “but this way things will only get complicated”.

Tickoo, who is the senior most leaders of Kashmiri pandits living in the Valley, said that some parts of the plan are good but they way it is being executed seems very strange. He even alleged that some political leaders are using Pandits to fulfill their political aspirations.
