The Jalandhar police on Wednesday booked a foreigner — allegedly a barrister based at Togo in Africa — in a case of fraud for asking BJP MLA Manoranjan Kalia to inherit the property of an engineer and later share it with him. The reason: Kalia shared the same surname with the deceased.

The deceased,M B Kalia, has allegedly left behind property worth six million dollars. On September 16,one Joseph Abiko,a barrister from Togo, had emailed the BJP MLA stating that the engineer had died in a road accident along with his wife and daughter and has no heirs. “I received two calls from Joseph Abiko on September 16 on my cellphone. The man told me that he is a barrister and asked me to inherit the property. He said that he will send me a detailed mail regarding this. The man called from the number +22891160915 and emailed me from ‘barr2aj@gmail.com’,” said Kalia.
