The Gurgaon police on Thursday met representatives of various companies and cab service providers to form a joint task force to ensure safety of women working late night in the city.
The members of the joint task force will meet with women employees as a confidence-building exercise,police said. More number of police personnel will also be deployed around company offices,police said.
DCP (East) Maheshwar Dayal met with representatives of more than 15 companies as well as those providing transportation facilities to the companies.
The task force will have police officers apart from representatives of companies. This was the first meeting of the task force, said Dayal.
According to the Labour Act,companies need to take special permission from the district administration if they have women employees working beyond 8 pm. Efforts are on to identify companies which do not have have the necessary permission and steps will be taken to ensure that they comply with the law, said a police officer.
Gurgaon had recently witnessed several incidents of rape and other crimes against women. A couple of months ago,a woman was allegedly raped by seven persons after she was abducted from MG Road.
Dayal said protection of women was a priority for police. Around 100 women constables have been inducted in the East section. Soon,all malls,Metro stations and important places in the city will have the presence of women police constables, he said.
The meeting also discussed the need to conduct verification of drivers,installing GPS systems in cabs and also keeping fingerprint records of drivers hired by transport companies.
