JKLF chairman detained in Srinagar

The JKLF protest against “concessions” provided by the Centre for Pakistan refugees in the state.

The J&K Police detained top Separatist leader and Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chairman Mohammed Yasin Malik along with a dozen of his supporters from Lalchowk in Srinagar on Friday, where the group had gathered to protest against “concessions” provided by the Centre for Pakistan refugees in the state.

As the JKLF supporters assembled and started shouting slogans, police and the CRPF men swung into action and detained Malik and his supporters. The police had to resort to tear gas shelling after angry supporters started pelting stones at the security forces.

Separatists in Valley have warned that they will launch an agitation if the state accepts the recommendations made by a Joint Parliamentary Committee to grant a “permanent resident” status to Pakistani refugees settled in J&K.
