Jammu and Kashmir Government has chalked out a comprehensive programme to upgrade all fruit ‘mandis’ in the state to provide better marketing facilities to the growers.
“Better marketing and other facilities would be provided to the growers within the ambit of fruit mandis,” Minister of State for Horticulture Javid Ahmad Dar said during a visit to Sopore,55 kms from here in north kashmir on Wednesday.
The minister released Rs two crore for the purpose of upgrading the local fruit market. He said government is committed to providing basic facilities to the growers.
Describing Horticulture as the back bone of the economy,he said encouragement of private players is necessary for promotion of this industry.

Dar said the state will provide financial assistance to fruit growers to build basic infrastructure like cold storage.
For the purpose,the minister said,the state would provide Rs 16 crore to fruit growers out of which Rs 10 crore would be subsidy.
He called upon the educated youth to take benefit of these mega schemes launched by the Horticulture department for the development of infrastructure.
