J&K minister ‘slaps’ youth at Omar rally

Eyewitnesses said the youth kept shouting that his case had not been settled.

J&K’s Minister for Higher Education Akbar Lone slapped a youth for trying to disrupt the speech of CM Omar Abdullah in north Kashmir’s Watergam town on Tuesday.

An eyewitness said the youth, Mohammad Amin from Sopore, who was sitting in the front row of the gathering, stood up while Omar was giving his speech and demanded that he to listen to his grievance.

NC workers initially tried to pacify the youth, but he was taken away by security personnel. Later, as Omar continued his speech, Lone, along with a few NC workers, allegedly chased him down and manhandled him. Lone then slapped him. A video of the incident has gone viral online.

NC MLA, Javid Dar said Amin had a grievance with the State Financial Corporation. “The aggrieved youth had applied for a loan with the SFC for setting up a mineral water plant and his case was not sanctioned,’’ he said.

Eyewitnesses said the youth kept shouting that his case had not been settled.

Dar, however, said Omar met Amin and assured him that his grievance will be resolved. “He (the youth) met the CM and apologised for his behaviour. Omar assured him that his case will be resolved once the poll ends.’’
