Students seeking admission to first year courses at Appasaheb Jedhe College of Arts,Science and Commerce have alleged that the college still continues to demand additional fees without issuing a receipt for it despite protests on June 25.
Though,on intervention by some students groups, the college authorities denied having any knowledge of such fees being charged at the time of admission and assured that if any such practice was found,it would be stopped immediately.
When we protested on June 25,the college initially denied collecting any such fees. In the first half, students who came for admissions paid extra Rs 5,000 apart from Rs 7,000 fees, but in the second half, after the protests the students were not charged the extra amount. However, today again we were asked to pay the additional amount on the pretext of building maintenance fees. When we asked for the receipt and held a protest against the act today,we were told that it will be issued when classes begin, said a student.
City president of Nationalist Student Congress,Arvind Gore, said,Today when we spoke to senior officials of Shivaji Maratha Society, the trust that runs the college, they assured us that no separate building maintenance fees will be charged and the college will also reduce the admisson form fee. However,we cannot go by their word now and we will keep a tab on them.
