The wife of a sitting BJP MLA from R S Pura, Gagan Bhagat, seems to have landed in trouble as a local court here on Monday ordered the Crime Branch to enquire into the genuineness of her BAMS degree.
An Ayurvedic doctor, Monika Sharma, is running a private clinic in R S Pura. Her clinic was earlier sealed by police after police booked her for conducting pre-natal detection test in 2012.
The court order followed a complaint by Neelam Kumari, a member of the Board of Directors in the J&K Women Credit Cooperative Ltd, accusing BJP legislator’s wife of presenting a fake BAMS degree and marks card for getting a job. The fake degree and marks cards are purported to have been issued by Baba Sahib Bhim Rao Ambedkar Bihar University, Muzaffarpur, she pointed out.
In support of her charge, the complainant pointed out that when she sent photocopies of the degree and the marks card to the university controller for authentication, the latter refused having issued such documents. Pointing out that the Cooperatives held a meeting and authorized her initiate legal action against Dr Monika Sharma, the complainant alleged that she approached the SSP Crime Branch for registration of a case into the matter.
However, as proper investigations has “gigantic ramifications” in view of accused being the wife of a sitting ruling party legislator, the SSP neither registered the case nor started investigations till date compelling her approach the court. She sought court’s direction to crime branch for registration of a case into the matter saying that accused appears to have been assisted by her husband and some university officials in getting the fake BAMS degree. It may be a tip of the iceberg as there is every possibility of well knit racket issuing fake degrees to people in the state, she added.
Pointing out that the university has denied having issued any such degree or marks card, the First Class Judicial Magistrate, Jammu, Pravin Pandoh, ordered the Crime Branch to investigate into the matter.
