Jammu terror attack: Lt. Col Bikramjeet was shot at close range by militants

Bikramjeet who was second-in-command of the unit was shot in the stomach.

The body of Lt Col Bikramjeet Singh,Second-in-Command,16 Light Cavalry,who was killed in the terror attack at Samba,in Jammu,was brought back to Chandimandir,Western Command,on Thursday evening.

The body arrived around 6 pm after a day of tense,grim waiting. Brigadier R S Mann,Western Command,was with the family to offer support and condolences.

Bikramjeet is survived by his wife Navneet Kaur,daughter Ramneet (8) and aged parents Major Paramjit Singh and Luvpreet Kaur. Before his posting to Jammu and Kashmir a few months back,he was based at Ganganagar.

The news of the death of their only son came as a shock to the aged parents,residents of Sector 18 here. Relatives,friends and neighbours too were finding it difficult to come to terms with the tragedy.

A teary-eyed Gurpreet Kaur,Bikramjeet’s cousin,said,“He was a very caring and loving brother. We spoke just a few days back. He said he would come and meet me in October.”

Brother-in-law Harpal Singh said,“ Bikramjit was a very jovial person,intelligent and a brave soldier. He was full of life and used to take initiatives in everything.”

Neighbours too were all praise for the officer. Mrs Sunita Das said,“He was like a son to me. Whenever he visited his parents,he would make time for us also. He was very caring and used to respect his elders.

CISF jawan killed in militant attack in Srinagar

P K Das,another neighbour,said,“The entire family is very spiritual and down-to earth. His grandfather was Sant Hari Singh,who was famous for organising run-for-fun at Sukhna lake.”

During the day,Chandigarh Mayor Subash Chawla visited the family. Talking to media he said,“the family has lost their only son and are shattered. His parents are in no condition to talk,his mother is very critical.”
