Jaitley slams televised Sonia speech

BJP said that the move was the loudest indicator of Congress leadership’s “lack of confidence” in Rahul Gandhi’s leadership of poll campaign.

Terming Congress president Sonia Gandhi’s televised appeal to the electorate Monday as a reflection of “desperation” in the party ranks, the BJP said Tuesday that the move was the loudest indicator of Congress leadership’s “lack of confidence” in Rahul Gandhi’s leadership of poll campaign.

“The Congress party changed track yesterday. Rahul led campaign and the accompanying advertisements were given a backseat. Sonia herself decided to lead from the front. The idea was to change the principal communicator of the party from the son to the mother. This was an expression of lack of confidence in Rahul,” senior BJP leader Arun Jaitley said on his website.

“The only message… is that Congress party’s new slogan now is ‘Mein Nahin Mom’,” Jaitley said.
