A delegation of minority leaders met MoS (independent charge) Shripad Naik on Thursday to declare their support for the International Day of Yoga on June 21. The delegation included president of Majlis Ulema e Hind (Uttar Pradesh) Maulana Syed Kaukab Mujtaba Abidi, president of Jamat Ulema e Hind (Delhi) Maulana Suhaib Qasmi, president of All India Jamat e Salmani B Irfan Salmani Dehalvi, president of Jamat Huffaz Ikraam Hafiz Mohd Sabreen, representative of Daudi Bohra Community Abbas Ali Bohra and professor of Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan Hanif Khan Shastri among others.

The leaders spoke to the minister about the support of 47 Islamic countries to India’s resolution for an International Day of Yoga and also said they agreed that Namaz too has yogic postures. “It was a very good meeting a large number of organisations… pledged to participate in the event. There is no compulsion for saying shlokas… People who do not want to recite shlokas can take the names of their own Gods too,” Naik said.
