A day after The Indian Express reported that the son of a top J&K police officer had posted a series of photographs on Instagram showing his father’s apparent abuse of power, the state’s Director General of Police (DGP) K Rajendra ordered an investigation into the case.
“We have taken the issue seriously,” Rajendra said. “Once we went through the Express story in the morning, I ordered an investigation into this,” he added.
One of the pictures, posted by Deputy Inspector General, Jammu, Shakeel Beig’s son Tony Beig on Instagram, shows a man helping his father put on shoes. In another picture, an armed security man is seen acting as Tony Beig’s caddie.

The pictures, which went viral on social networking websites, evoked angry reactions from people across the state.
J&K’s MoS for Home Sajad Ahmad Kichloo said he is yet to see the pictures. “I will see the pictures first and then decide what to do,” he said.
People’s Democratic Party spokesperson Naeem Akhter said, “It is a caution for everyone. Police officials and bureaucracy…need to change their lifestyle.”
