Investigators probing the alleged murder of Sheena Bora have said suspects Indrani Mukerjea and Sanjeev Khanna allegedly placed her body between them on the rear seat of the rented vehicle as they drove from Mumbai to Raigad to dump it there. The police claim that the duo did not leave the body in the boot fearing nakabandi.
According to the police, it also emerged from the interrogation that Indrani would rest the dead body’s head on her shoulder every time the car neared a traffic situation.

Explaining the sequence in which the body was disposed of, the Mumbai Police for the first time told the Bandra Metropolitan Magistrate Court that after Sheena was murdered on April 24, 2012, the corpse was first kept in a suitcase and driven to the garage of Indrani’s husband and former Star TV CEO Peter Mukerjea’s Worli home. On April 25, Indrani, her former husband Sanjeev Khanna and the then driver Shyam Rai took the corpse out of the suitcase and placed it inside the car. The three then set off for a three-hour journey with the corpse propped up on the rear seat of the moving vehicle. The body was finally taken out at Ghogade Khurd in Pen and stuffed back in the suitcase kept in the boot of the car, documents filed by the police in court Monday said.
Nearly a week after the Khar police arrested Indrani, it told the court that she and Khanna had planned to kill both her children, Sheena Bora and Mekhail Bora, on April 24, 2012. Mukherjea, Khanna and Shyam Rai have all been additionally charged with attempting to murder Mekhail, by administering him a poisonous substance, under the IPC. Sheena, according to the police, was abducted by the trio from Bandra West between 6.30 pm and 7.30 pm on April 24, 2012, and strangled to death in the car, which the police said it had not yet recovered.
The trio was produced in the court at 3.30 pm with their faces covered. Throughout the 45-minute hearing, the black scarves were taken off for only a few seconds so that the magistrate could look at them. Mukherjea and Khanna’s young daughter Vidhie looked on from a corner of the court and broke down when her parents, along with Rai, were remanded in police custody until September 5. While Khanna has throughout used the defence that he was in town to meet his daughter Vidhie, in the open court Monday she didn’t acknowledge him or look at him even once. The remand application has also put on record Sheena and Mekhail as Indrani’s children from first marriage.
