A police constable was crushed to death on Sunday morning when he tried to stop a dumper involved in sand mining in Morena district.
Constable Dharmendra Chouhan was part of a team that had gone to village Dhanela reportedly to investigate a case of loot when he saw the dumper carrying illegally mined sand around 4.40 am.
When the constable tried to stop the dumper the driver did not stop and tried to escape by backing his vehicle. “When asked to stop the driver should have stopped the dumper but he tried to run away,’’ Morena SP Navneet Bhaseen told The Indian Express.
Chouhan died on the spot. The driver managed to escape.
Three years ago, IPS officer Narendra Kumar was crushed to death while chasing a tractor carrying illegally mined sand in the same district. In February 2014, the tractor driver was sentenced to 12 years rigorous imprisonment but the slain officer’s family was not happy with the verdict.
