The heat wave continued in the country on Friday with three more deaths in Orissa taking the toll this summer to 113 and Kolkata recording the hottest day of the season while unseasonal rains in western Mahasrashtra brought some relief from the scorching sun.
The searing heat claimed three more lives in Orissa,one each in Angul,Kendrapara and Puri districts taking the number of suspected sunstroke deaths in the state to 113.
Talcher was the hottest at 44.3 degrees Celsius followed by Angul which recorded a maximum of 44.1 degrees Celsius.
Most of the places in interior and western Orissa recorded temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius.
It was the hottest day of the season in Kolkata with the mercury rising to 41.8 degrees Celsius prompting the Met office to issue a heatwave warning for the metropolis and south Bengal districts on Saturday.
The brief respite from the scorching heat ended for the residents of Delhi as the mercury climbed above the 40-degree mark again on Friday.
The maximum temperature was recorded at 40.3 degrees Celsius,almost two degrees higher than Thursday’s maximum,while the minimum was 23.2 degrees Celsius.
