HC refuses to stay CBI probe against Dera chief

Dera chief has been accused of forced castration.

The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Thursday refused to stay the CBI probe against Sirsa-based Dera Sacha Sauda head Gurmeet Ram Rahim in a case of alleged forcible castration of his over 400 followers at his behest for “realisation of God”.

The Division Bench comprising acting Chief Justice S J Vazifdar and Augustine George Masih, however, while hearing Dera head’s appeal against the single-judge order of December 23 last, issued notices to the CBI, Haryana government and the complainant, Hans Raj Chauhan, for February 25.

CBI’s special prosecutor Sukhdeep Singh Sandhu submitted that in compliance of the court directions, the CBI has already registered an FIR against Dera head and others in New Delhi on December 7 and further investigation would be carried out.
