The Punjab and HaryanaHigh Court on Thursday dismissed
a petition filed by Maoist leader Kobad Ghandy seeking speedy disposal of a case pending against him in a Patiala court. The case is hanging fire as the court had adjourned it sine die after the Delhi Police said that Ghandy (63) will not be allowed to leave jail. Challenging the sine die
order ,Ghandy had moved the high court seeking speedy disposal of the case. The high court,however,refused to entertain Ghandys request in January following a tip-off that he had visited Punjabi University n Patiala under a fake dentity. Last year,the high ourt,had dismissed Ghandys bail application as well. Ghandy,a Politburo member of the banned CPI(Maoist),was arrested in September 2009 in Delhi following a joint operation by intelligence agencies and the police and has been behind bars since then. The case was registered against Ghandy and one Manoj alias Rajesh at the sadarpolice station in Patiala under sections 10,13,18 & 20 of Unlawful Activities prevention Act and sections 419 and 120 B of the IPC. In its petition filed through advocate R S Bains,Ghandy had pleaded his innocence,stating that he was booked for delivering a lecture in PU in April and May 2009 on Maoist activities. He had pleaded that at the time,
CPI(Maoist) was not banned. It was was banned in June 22,
2009,he had argued.
