The Orissa High Court on Monday asked the state government not to take any coercive action against its former DGP and current Special Secretary in the Home Ministry, Prakash Mishra, on an FIR filed against him for alleged irregularities during his tenure as the chairman of the Orissa Police Housing and Welfare Corporation.
Responding to a Criminal Miscellaneous petition by Mishra seeking quashing of the FIR, Justice S C Parija also issued notices to Orissa government and Centre to file replies to Mishra’s contention that he was being unduly victimised by the state government. The next hearing in the case has been posted to October 29.
During Monday’s hearing, Justice Parija asked the state government’s counsel why an honest officer was being persecuted while corrupt ones were being spared. Mishra, a 1977-batch officer, was the chairman of OPHWC between 2006 and 2009.
