Haveliwala drink driving case judgment on Nov 1

The Special NDPS court has reserved its judgment in the 2010 Nooriya Haveliwala drunken driving case for November 1.

The Special NDPS court has reserved its judgment in the 2010 Nooriya Haveliwala drunken driving case for November 1. The prosecution has alleged that on January 29,2010,Haveliwala rammed her SUV into a police check-point at Marine Lines while under the influence of alcohol,killing a police constable and a motorcyclist and injuring three others.

The police said Haveliwala was returning to her residence in south Mumbai after a party with friends at a flat in Malabar Hill area and then at a pub in Mumbai Central when the accident took place.

While Haveliwala has been out on bail since April 4,2010,after the police failed to file a chargesheet in the case within 60 days of her arrest,the Foreigners Regional Registration Officer (FRRO) and DCP Special Branch II has restricted her from traveling outside Mumbai. Haveliwala has been booked for culpable homicide not amounting to murder,rash and negligence act,causing grievous hurt under the Indian Penal Code and relevant sections of the NDPS Act.
