A day after talks between Gujjar leader Kirori Singh Bainsla and the Rajasthan government failed to yield results, the community members intensified their agitation on Sunday for 5 per cent reservation in government jobs.
Gujjars, who have been squatting on the Delhi-Mumbai railway tracks for over four days, also blocked the Agra-Jaipur highway at Sikandara in Dausa and also Sawaimadhopur-Sheopur state highway in Khandar area of Sawaimadhopur district.
“We are intensifying the agitation… similar agitations would also be launched in other parts if the government does not fulfill our demand,” Himmat Singh, spokesperson of the Gujjar Arakshan Sangharsh Samiti, was quoted as saying by PTI.

In Jaipur, Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje held a high-level meeting to review the situation. She also sought feedback from the three-minister cabinet sub-group, comprising Rajendra Rathore, Hem Singh Bhadana and Arun Chaturvedi, which met Bainsla and other community leaders on Saturday.
A second round of talks between the Gujjars and the government is expected to be held on Monday.
The CM also reviewed the law and order situation during a meeting with DGP Manoj Bhatt and chief secretary C S Rajan.
Former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot appealed to the Gujjars to maintain peace, saying talks were the only way to resolve the deadlock and the community should put its views before the government peacefully.
The Gujjar community has been demanding 5 per cent reservation in government jobs within the OBC category —opposed vehemently by the Jats, one of the most powerful constituents of the OBC.
