Governor’s address exposed govt’s dangerous intentions: Jakhar

The standoff between ruling and Opposition parties spilled over to the next week with the Congress continuing its mock session on Monday.

The standoff between ruling and Opposition parties spilled over to the next week with the Congress continuing its mock session on Monday. Since Assembly secretary had informed the party that the mock session cannot be held inside the Vidhan Sabha complex, the opposition MLAs,of which 42 out of 46 were present, had assembled near the entry gate to the complex.

Replying to the Governor’s address,Leader of Opposition Sunil Jakhar described it as a dangerous document that exposes the intentions of the Parkash Singh Badal government. “It states that my government is of the view that decisions concerning high emotional, religious and ideological importance should be handled with greater care and regional and national aspirations should flow as part of one stream. Are they trying to incite people by saying so” It is same as J&K Assembly calling Afzal Guru ‘Afzal saab’. Are they trying to browbeat national interest by flaring up religious emotions?,” Jakhar asked. Like Guru, former Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh’s assassin,Balwant Singh Rajoana,is on a death row.

Hitting out at Parliamentary Affairs minister Madan Mohan Mittal,he said the minister is more “bothered about whether an ADGP saluted him or not”. “The first protest to this kind of dangerous intentions should have come from the BJP. But the minister cannot think beyond whether an ADGP saluted him,” he said.

“The CM let Revenue Minister Bikram Majithia have a free run in Punjab. But when he felt Majithia was eyeing the CM’s chair,he gave him a public dressing down at the NRI sammelan,” Jakhar added.

Training his guns on the CM,he said,“Sitting inside (the Assembly) is someone who wants himself addressed as the tallest leader in the country. This tallest leader told people in Moga during bypoll campaigning that not a single brick for development can be laid in Moga if it votes for Congress. They won the bypoll but lost it morally. While claiming to work with the Opposition,he instead targeted his personal jibes at all of us.”

He then took a dig at the farm diversification programme of the government. “For them diversification means diverting public money towards transport, sand and gravel and hospitality businesses. What has this regime done for farmers? It even ate up the drought relief provided by the central government in 2009,” Jakhar said.

On the privilege motion moved against him,he said there was greater merit in moving breach of privilege proceedings against ministers “who lied on the floor of the House”. “I have a job to perform. If I cannot highlight the plight of a Dalit girl who was first beaten up mercilessly by policemen and then was being forced into a compromise,I do not deserve to be even an MLA,leave alone Leader of Opposition,” he added.
