Assam CM and Congress leader Tarun Gogoi has thought of a direct method to draw the attention of voters. Gogoi has proposed that a “modest amount” be given to the poor and needy as a ‘Bihu gift’. The proposal was made in the interim state budget placed here Thursday, and Gogoi wants to give away the money from the state exchequer by mid-April. “The people of Assam will celebrate Rongali Bihu after two months. I propose giving a modest amount as a Bihu gift to the poor and needy people as a token of my love and concern for them,” Gogoi said. Ge did not specify how much money would be given. Opposition parties said Gogoi was trying to trying to ‘buy votes’ before the polls.
