Giani Tarlochan Singh dies of cardiac arrest

Giana Tarlochan Singh,head of one of the five holiest Sikh shrines — Takht Kesgarh Sahib — died following a cardiac arrest at his residence in Anandpur Sahib on the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday.

Giana Tarlochan Singh,head of one of the five holiest Sikh shrines — Takht Kesgarh Sahib — died following a cardiac arrest at his residence in Anandpur Sahib on the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday. He was 59. Singh is survived by his wife,a son and three daughters.

Singh had returned from Takht Damdama Sahib in Talwandi Sabo Tuesday night after attending a religious function there. The heads of Akal Takht,SGPC and DSGMC were among scores of organisations and individuals who expressed deep grief over his demise.

Giani Tarlochan Singh became head granthi of Takht Kesgarh Sahib in 1994 after working with SGPC since 1974. He was elevated to the post of officiating jathedar of Takht Kesgarh Sahib in 2003. In 2004,he was made the regular jathedar of Takht Kesgarh Sahib. His cremation will take place at 10 am on Thursday.

Meanwhile,Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and his deputy Sukhbir Singh Badal on Wednesday expressed shock at the demise of Giani Tarlochan Singh. Badal said Jathedar Tarlochan Singh’s contribution in eradication of social evils and in spreading the true message of Sikhism would be remembered by all.
