The Congress on Friday said the CAG report on Purti Sakhar Karkhana Limited, a project of the Purti Group in which Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari was once a board member, was a “serious matter” and demanded the resignation of the union minister. It said Gadkari and the Purti Group are “synonymous” as he is the founder and promoter of the group.

The party demanded a “comprehensive and independent” probe, preferably a judicial inquiry into the CAG findings. “We demand that he step down, without which a free and fair inquiry would not be possible,” Congress spokesperson Abhishek Singhvi said.

“Every rule in the rule book has been violated. It is the same CAG on whose reports even before the ink would dry the BJP would make all kinds of allegations when it was in the opposition,” Singhvi said.
