AS Indian Air Force (IAF) celebrates the 82nd Air Force Day at Hindon on Wednesday, Honorary Group Captain Sachin Tendulkar will be attending the Air Force Day parade, not as a cricket legend but as an IAF officer. This comes four years after the cricketing legend was conferred upon the rank of an honorary Group Captain by the IAF.
Group Captain Sundeep Mehta, spokesperson for IAF’s Western Air Command said that Tendulkar, being a Bharat Ratna, will be given due place along with the Air Chief and other dignitaries from the three services who would be attending the event.
The IAF has been inviting Tendulkar every year for the IAF Day parade, but he had not been able to take time off his cricketing schedule. “But now he has accepted our invitation. He will attend as an IAF Honorary officer and will be a part of the event,” Mehta said.
Whether Tendulkar would wearing his uniform is not yet known. “ideally, he should be wearing his rank on the shoulder. But that is still not known,” an official said.
