The Uttar Pradesh Police has lodged an FIR against Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav for allegedly threatening IPS officer Amitabh Thakur, currently under suspension, over telephone on July 10.

“The FIR has been registered as per the court’s order. The Allahabad High Court was informed on September 30 (Wednesday) that an FIR under Section 506 has been registered at Hazratganj police station on September 24,” said Rajiv Malhotra, additional SP (East).

Thakur had moved a CJM court after the station house officer (SHO) Hazratganj had disposed of his plea to file an FIR, claiming an inquiry into the matter did not establish his allegations.

On Thursday, Thakur staged a dharna near the Hazratganj police station, demanding an FIR against Mulayam. The dharna was lifted about 5 pm when the police assured him it had been registered.

Thakur, however, said that he has not been provided a copy of the FIR despite requests. “Every complainant has a right to a copy of the FIR. This shows the police is working under Mr Mulayam Singh Yadav’s pressure. I will move court to get the copy,” he said.

Thakur has alleged that on July 10, Mulayam threatened him over the phone. He had also released an audio clip containing the purported conversation.

Thakur and his wife Nutan claimed Mulayam threatened him after an FIR was registered against UP mines minister Gayatri Prasad Prajapati for allegedly “framing” the IPS officer in a case of rape.

Nutan had also filed a complaint with the Lokayukta against Prajapati, accusing him of sheltering illegal mining and possessing disproportionate assets. The Lokayukta, however, did not find them to be true
