The counsels of Punjab and Haryana gave suggestion for controlling crime against women to the Punjab and Haryana High Court Monday. The suggestions were given during the resumed hearing of a PIL arising of a suo motu notice taken by the court in cases of rape and other crimes against women.
The court has been requested to pass direction that cases of crime against women shall be fast tracked and contempt of court proceedings be initiated against lower courts for not complying with the directions.
“Cases involving crime against women should be transferred to Fast Track Courts,as delay in decision of such cases weakens their will power to fight and resist pressures. Trials involving such crimes must conclude within one or maximum two months after presentation of challan. The trial court should not grant bail till decision of case,except in exceptional circumstances,” reads one of the suggestions.
It was further suggested that persons involved in acid attacks should bear substantial expenses for treatment and plastic surgery of their victim.The court has reserved final orders on the petition.
