Chandigarh: The Punjab Congress Monday claimed that the interim order of Punjab and Haryana High Court in ordering transfer of seven policemen in a case where a Dalit girl was assaulted by policemen in public view, vindicates the party’s stand of bringing her to the Assembly to highlight police atrocity. PCC chief Partap Singh Bajwa said the party will put up a fight for the common man whenever such atrocities comes to its notice. “If the Home minister Sukhbir Badal has even an iota of self-respect this is the right time for him to put his resignation,” he added.

Leader of Opposition Sunil Jakhar said it was a shame that the girl had to move high court to seek security against the police itself. “What’s even more shameful is that the High Court bestowed the security of the girl to Chandigarh and Haryana police showing no faith in state police,” he added.
