In a bid to woo loyalists of his predecessor Capt Amarinder Singh, the new Punjab Congress chief,Partap Singh Bajwa, has appointed a few of them as PCC observers.
It starts with the name of his own younger brother Fateh Jung Bajwa who has been appointed as observer for Amritsar. Other than his own loyalists such as former MLA Sukhpal Khaira,Kuljit Nagra,Gurkirat Kotli and Ashwani Sekhri,it includes some staunch Amarinder loyalists who missed his lunch invite and visit to Darbar Sahib on March 16 and include PCC general secretaries Arvind Khanna and Kushaldeep Dhillon who have been made in-charge of Patiala and Bathinda, both urban and rural.
Bajwa is also learnt to have solicited the attendance of Amarinder when he takes charge as the PCC president at Chandigarh on Saturday. The 25 coordinators appointed by him today who will hold meetings on March 20 at all the district headquarters to mobilise workers and masses to PCC office.
Chandigarh: The Punjab Congress Monday claimed that the interim order of Punjab and Haryana High Court in ordering transfer of seven policemen in a case where a Dalit girl was assaulted by policemen in public view, vindicates the partys stand of bringing her to the Assembly to highlight police atrocity. PCC chief Partap Singh Bajwa said the party will put up a fight for the common man whenever such atrocities comes to its notice. If the Home minister Sukhbir Badal has even an iota of self-respect this is the right time for him to put his resignation, he added.
Leader of Opposition Sunil Jakhar said it was a shame that the girl had to move high court to seek security against the police itself. Whats even more shameful is that the High Court bestowed the security of the girl to Chandigarh and Haryana police showing no faith in state police, he added.
